Adding GIFs to Your Website

Looking to add some movement to your website? A GIF is an animated image file that is great for this. You can use GIFs in emails and social media. You can even use them on your website. In this article, we’ll walk through the steps to add GIFs to your Zibster account and then add them to any page of your website.

Uploading GIFS

You can easily upload GIFs, up to 4MB each, to the File section of your Zibster account. You can access the File section from the left side menu of the control panel. Then click on documents in the top menu. Here you can upload GIFs. You can click to select your file, or drag and drop the file to the area designated on the screen. Once uploaded you’ll see the file listed on the screen with an image URL. Copy this link, you will use it to add the GIF to pages of your website.

Adding a GIF to a text editor block

Now it's time to choose where you want to add the GIF on your website. Navigate to the Website Builder and select the page you want to add it to. You can add a GIF to any text editor block. Click to edit the block (or add a new one), then put your cursor in the location in the block you want to add the GIF, and click the  “add image” icon 🖼️ on the visual tab. A screen will pop up to paste the image URL for your GIF, as well as to enter alt text to describe it. Click save and your GIF will appear in the text block. Then click save again, this time on the text block. You can make adjustments from the visual or HTML tabs of the text block until you’re satisfied with the placement and appearance of your GIF.

How you can use GIFs

GIFs can help communicate emotion, build excitement, convey humor, and more. They are great for promotional landing pages and blog posts. You can:

  • Pair GIFs with text to help visually illustrate what you are saying with words

  • Incorporate text into GIFs to animate your text

  • Create a slideshow with a GIF to tell a story

  • And more

As you consider how to use GIFs on your website, remember the adage “less is more.” They are a great tool to grab a customer's attention, but be careful not to overdo it. Too many GIFs and your website may start to look like an old MySpace or hamster dance site.
