“Blue Agave is a Mexican Restaurant, and we serve traditional Mexican dishes such as burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, and the best margaritas in town,” says owner Lisa Lopez. The restaurant opened in August 2014 in Greensboro, NC.
“This restaurant used to be a Poblano’s Mexican Restaurant and my husband was the manager at the Poblano’s Mexican Restaurant in Friendly Center,” says Lopez. “The owner approached my husband and asked if he would like to partner with him to rebrand the Poblano’s Mexican Restaurant on Battleground Avenue to a new Mexican Restaurant. Later in 2020 we bought out the Poblano’s shares, so the restaurant is fully owned and operated by Blue Agave Mexican Bar & Grill, Inc.”
So where did the name Blue Agave come from? After going back and forth on several names, they landed on Blue Agave, which is the base ingredient in tequila. “We thought that would be a good name for the restaurant as many people love margaritas and tequila,” says Lopez.
As it was coming to fruition, the owners of Blue Agave Mexican Bar & Grill turned to Zibster to create their website. Their daughter was an employee of Zibster’s sister company, PhotoBiz, and helped get the restaurant’s account and website set up.
“Our experience with Zibster has been great! Not knowing much about how a website works, everyone there in support has been extremely helpful in answering any questions that we have,” says Lopez. “The focus of our website is to provide our customers with information about the business as well as providing a vehicle for us to fulfill online orders for pickup.”
Lopez tells us that Blue Agave has many online orders that go through their website and the volume increased with the help of Zibster’s Passionate Support Team. “...the support staff at Zibster helped us to create some coupon codes. We currently have one running for 20% off and it has brought in many orders for us.”
Right now, Blue Agave is focusing on increasing sales. Lopez tells us that it was tough during the COVID-19 pandemic, but sales are getting better and more customers are coming to the restaurant. “Who knows, if all goes well, we may open another location someday!”
As for advice she would give to someone starting their own business, Lopez says there are two things. “(1) Make sure you have adequate capital to get you through the first few years. That was the most stressful part of opening this business. I spent lots of time worrying about how we were going to make payroll and pay all the other bills. Luckily, we made it through those first few years and are finally in a position where I don’t have to worry all of the time. (2) Make sure you are comfortable with who you partner with because there are usually a lot of compromises that you will have to make, and you definitely want to make sure you are in business with people who you really trust!”
Finally, what is the one thing everyone needs to try when they come to Blue Agave? “Everyone needs to try our Tableside Guacamole! It is fabulous and made to order at your table. It is made from our fresh avocados and [you] can choose to have the server add lime juice, tomato, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, garlic, and salt,” says Lopez. Sounds delicious!
